It is 4:25 and we are back in the room now. We left this morning at 10:00. Dad hasn't complained of nausea today yet. He drank his boost for breakfast and then we headed to radiation. After radiation, we saw Dr. Scott and Dr. Dilling. I voiced all of my concerns and observations and Dr. Dilling was very receptive to them all. (Woo Hoo!) We discussed how after he initially takes his pain meds that the nausea seems to disappear for a while, as it does on his infusion days when he gets the benadryl. The doctor agreed that it may be "taking the edge off" initially and the relaxing that calms the nerves, which may ultimately be affecting the nausea. They discussed an anti-anxiety pill but we decided to see if just taking the benadryl on a regular basis would help. The doctor said it may keep him sleepy but I said that's OK if he sleeps for the next two weeks, as long as he is drinking boost and keeping it down. He agreed again. Before his infusion, I ran back over to the kitchen at the lodge and grabbed a few more boosts for him to drink. He drank one and a half and then slept the rest of the time. The nurse woke him up and told him he was finished and he told her he would like to stay and finish the bag of fluids they had started for the "flush out". She said OK and so he did. Good job Dad! And then he went back to sleep. He is reading again now. He started another book last night. Still cracks me up. The Eager Beavers are providing dinner tonight.
There is one thing that I don't think we have mentioned that goes on here. There is a black lady and man who come on Monday nights and sing gospel music and pray. Their names are Cydell and Otto. They sing beautifully and are very sweet people. It is kind of neat because when I have listened to them with Dad, he seems to know the words to all of the songs. They are right out of the hymnal and he must have sang them in church growing up. It's great.
Today has been a good day so far, I hesitate to say that because it almost seems like everytime I do then it takes a turn for the worse, but maybe not tonight. Samantha is coming up tomorrow with my kids. We are going to hand out the Christmas cards that Ami's school sent. Thank you to Mr. Griffin, the staff, and all the kids for doing that. I know Ami cannot wait to hand them out. Love to all, Shannon
